La Donna Allard (Lakota-Dakota) and Myron Dewey (Paiute-Shoshone). Were Water Protectors for their tribe.
They helped open Standing Rock Camp in North Dakota in 2016. Their camp invited water protectors from all over the world to help stop oil drilling pipelines from being dug under tribal land, the rivers, and lakes.
La Donna lived on her family’s tribal land next to the Sacred Stone River. Her family had lived and died there for many generations.
Myron was a filmmaker and journalist. He took photos and wrote about Standing Rock on social media so that people could learn the truth about the pollution of the precious water.
The memorial that was erected of Alonzo Ashley, was finally honored after 15 yrs. For trying to get a drink of water at the Zoo in Denver and he was shot and killed.
